Recent Kpop singles

There have been quite a few KPOP singles that have been released in the past few weeks I’ve been excited about. I finally got around to listening to some and these songs. I am sharing my thoughts on some of these singles. The songs I’ll be discussing are:

  • NCT Dream x HRVY- Don’t Need Your Love
  • BTS Jin- Tonight
  • BTS Jin, Jimin & Jungkook (Feat. Charli XCX)- Dream Glow
  • Sungwoon (feat. Gaeko)- Riding
  • Eric Nam-Runaway

NCT Dream X HRVY- Don’t Need Your Love

I love this song. I was not familiar with HRVY before this video. I’m very impressed by HRVY. I will look into other songs he has released. DNYL is such a good SM station song. I wish this would be a promoted song on music shows. The vocals for the song are excellent. Renjun and Chenle continue to blow me away with their incredible vocals. Jisung is growing up, and his deep vocals hit me. Jeno and Jaemin’s rapping was so good as well. The song has such a summer vibe. The MV is very well done. I will be blasting this along with NCT 127’s We are Superhuman album this summer. The more I listen to DNYL, the more I love it.

Jin- Tonight

The song is relaxing. It’s a beautiful song with great vocals. The lyrics are heartbreaking. I wish the song were longer. An MV would be nice as well. I’m grateful for the translators who posted the English lyrics so quickly. I hope this song will get a real release to iTunes or Spotify in the future so I can add it to my playlists. Love the song.

BTS (Feat. Charli XCX)- Dream Glow

I’ve listened to it a few times now. I wanted to love the song, but I can’t say that I do. Unfortunately, this song doesn’t do anything for me. It’s an okay song. I usually love this style, so this is a real bummer. There are some good moments but overall not to my taste. I’m very bummed because I was hopeful it’d like it the more I listened to it.

Sungwoon (feat. Gaeko)- Riding

I think Sungwoon has a lovely voice. I can get lost in it. He puts me in a good mood with his songs. It’s going to be a sweet summer song. I love the lyrics of this song a lot. Sungwoon keeps blowing me away with his releases. I wish there were an MV for this song. I’d say that this is a song to add to a playlist.

Eric Nam- Runaway

I had to include this song. I just love it so much. I love the summer vibe of the song. Eric’s vocals sound so good. It puts me in a great mood whenever I listen to it. I wish he had released more music. The MV for the song is excellent as well. It looks like the two had a great time filming it. I love seeing him happy too. This song was instantly added to my playlist on first listen.

NCT 127’s We are Superhuman

Below are my thoughts on NCT 127’s 4th mini album. I was very excited about the release of this album. I have been a big fan of NCT/Wayv’s music for a while. I was fortunate enough to be able to see NCT 127 both at KCON NY 2018 and in during the Neo City tour at Newark. I was eagerly awaiting this album, and it did not disappoint.

1. Highway to Heaven

This song makes me want to roll the windows shown and blast it. I loved this song as soon as I first heard it at the Newark, NJ, concert. It is such a feel good song. I can’t stop smiling when I listen to it. The vocals!!!! All the vocals are amazing. Haechan’s high note gives me life. Highway to Heaven was my most listened to song in May by a lot. I absolutely love this song. It is definitely a contender for favorite NCT/Wayv song.

2. Superhuman

This song is such a good choice for their title track. It has a retro feel. Its a nice change of pace from the other popular songs in 2019. The MV is amazing! SM did a great job with the music video. I think it really stands out. Superhuman is an exceptional dance track. The choreography is great. I like the message behind the song as well that everyone has the ability to be superhuman. It’s such an enjoyable track.

3. Fool

After the two first two songs, the Fool brings it back down a notch. Fool is a cute love song. The lyrics are sweet revolving around their crush and how they’re tongue-tied. “You’re a goddess. I’m a fool.” It’s another upbeat song that feels different from Highway to Heaven and Superhuman. While not my favorite track on the album I do listen to it when it comes on. It’s a fun song.

4. Jet LagI love the style of the song. It’s such a refreshing change. The vocals are just stunning. I just get lost in this song. Whenever I listen to this song, I want to close my eyes and listen. The lyrics of a long distance relationship hit me in the feels. “Do not be so sorry, even if we’re apart, we’re still together.” Seeing this song live was an experience. I hope I get to see NCT 127 perform this live again.

Jet Lag

5. Paper Plane

NCT 127 brings the vibe back up. Paper plan is an upbeat EDM song. Whenever I hear this song, I want to dance. The feeling of it reminds me of a summer day. With the window already down (from Highway to Heaven), I will turn Paper plan up and dance. The song makes me so happy.

6. Outro: We are 127

The outro is not very long, but it is so good. It brings out the futuristic vibe. I wish the song were longer because I do enjoy it so much. Adding in a Superhuman clip towards the end just really made me so happy. Super enjoyable.

I love love love this mini album. I enjoy all the songs. I do not skip any of the tracks. The stylistic changes were a welcome surprise, and I’m so excited about what direction the group goes in the future. I have been a big fan of all their past releases, and I am eager to see where the group goes from here. We are Superhuman is a must listen to album.
